Blog assignment # 6

1) Do parents ever pressure their children to achieve? Why do you think so?

I believe that parents pressure their children to achieve because they want their children to be successful and be better than they were.

2) What are some conflicts parents and children have?

Some conflicts that parents and children have are school, grades, behavior and attitudes.

3) Do you feel that people can be anything they want to be?

I do feel like people can be anything they want to be. The reason I feel like this is because in my opinion everyone is offered the same opportunities, but its up to the person to take them and succeed in life.

4) Do all conflicts have a winner?

I do not believe that all conflicts have a winner because in most conflicts both sides may suffer a loss.

5) Compare your relationship with your parents to Chinese children's relationship with their parents

While ready the short story Two Kinds I noticed a few similarities between the main characters   mother and my mother. In the story her mother pushed her so hard to pursue her talents until she didn't want to do them anymore. When was younger I used to love singing until my mom made me do almost every talent show in Mobile. She used to keep me up at ungodly hours singing the same songs repeatedly until I got it right. In conclusion reading this story reminded me a lot of my childhood

Theme connections

The invisible Man is a book with a wide range of themes and ideologies. Personally I feel the most important themes were racism, stereotypes and  finding your own identity. Most black literature contains the same themes and messages. For example Langston Hughes poem I, Too. All three themes apply to the poem as well as the story because I, Too, was a poem that discussed overcoming obstacles with a single goal in mind. This coincides with the finding your identity them because in order to overcome something you must get a grasp of your own identity and what you want to do. Racism applies to this poem because although not really stated, it can be insinuated that the obstacles were because of racism, and that due to the color of your skin you would not be afforded the same opportunities, there for making it harder to achieve your goal.
